Recon Rockhounding Field Events Purpose

How Recon Rockhounding field events work and what to expect when announced.

Upcoming dates, registration, and details will be posted below when confirmed.

Recon Rockhounding field events are guided, permission-based experiences focused on how discovery works. These events do not guarantee specific finds.

These events are designed to help participants slow down, observe geological context, and practice responsible rockhounding in real-world environments. The emphasis is on preparation, safety, and understanding the land, rather than outcomes or results.

The philosophy guiding these experiences: process before outcome, observation before reward.

Field Event Information

What These Events Are

These events are:

  • Small, guided, and expectation-managed
  • Focused on geology, observation, and field process
  • Designed to support learning for adults and families
  • Conducted only with appropriate permissions and site rules
  • Structured to prioritize safety, respect for land, and shared understanding

Participants are encouraged to ask questions, observe carefully, and engage thoughtfully with the environment.

What These Events Are Not

These events are not:

  • Guaranteed-find experiences
  • Treasure hunts or competitions
  • Value or rarity focused outings
  • Showcase events for displaying finds
  • High-energy or excitement-driven activities

There are no guarantees regarding what may be found, and success is not measured by specimens collected. Learning, awareness, and responsible behavior are the intended outcomes.

This clarity exists to ensure the experience is aligned for everyone involved.

Safety & Responsibility

Safety and responsibility are non-negotiable.

  • All participants must follow site-specific rules and instructions.
  • Tools must be used carefully and appropriately.
  • Participants are responsible for their own awareness and conduct.
  • Adults are fully responsible for supervising minors at all times.
  • Respect for people, property, and the environment is required.

A safety overview and expectations are provided before participation.

Who These Events Are For

These events are intended for:

  • Adults interested in geology and rockhounding
  • Families seeking calm, educational outdoor experiences
  • Individuals who value patience, observation, and learning
  • Those willing to engage without guarantees or reward framing

If your primary goal is collecting high-value material or fast results, these events may not be a good fit.
